Tizen 3.0-M2-Aug for IVI Released

In anticipation of Tizen 3.0 release for IVI early next year, Tizen IVI team is pleased to announce that Tizen 3.0-M2-Aug for In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) was released on August 29th.

This new preview features an upgraded Wayland (1.2), weston compositor (1.2.1) and is based on a 3.11 Linux kernel. It comes with an enhanced Tizen Web RunTime (WRT), featuring new Web APIs (Automotive, Speech, DLNA). The Resource Policy Manager (Murphy), Automotive Message Broker, Hands-Free Dialer, MediaPlayer, and many more packages have been upgraded and new middleware components have been added, such as a new PIM manager (SyncEvolution), a speech-recognition framework, SmartDeviceLink, and basic support for Ethernet AVB.

A new automotive HomeScreen is under development and can be installed separately. Refer to the release notes for more details.

Tizen 2.2 Platform Release

We are pleased to announce that Tizen platform 2.2 source code and SDK are now available at https://developer.tizen.org/downloads/sdk.

Tizen 2.2 contains several changes in UI and UX. Highlights of this release include:

  • H/W back key and menu key replacing S/W keys
  • Fine-grained Access Control for API privileges powered by Smack
  • IDE and tools, including secure profile UX, UI customizer and live editing/preview for CSS/HTML5 files

Hopefully you were able to make it to this year's Tizen Developer Conference - we had great attendees, great sessions, and great sponsors. Tizen App Challenge is now open!

Hey app developers, have we got something for you! Tizen App Challenge is now open, which is your chance to get in on over $4M of prizes for the best apps submitted to Tizen Store.

Developers can submit their certified apps to Tizen App Challenge between now and November 1st, 2013. 

Eligible submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges, with prizes ranging from $30,000 to $200,000.  In addition, HTML5 apps are eligible for a special $50,000 award.

Tizen 2.1 SDK and Source Code Release

We are pleased to announce that Tizen 2.1 source code and SDK are now available at https://developer.tizen.org/downloads/sdk.

As a minor release, Tizen 2.1, codenamed Nectarine, contains several new features and performance enhancements. Highlights of this release include:

  • Enhanced Web framework that provides state-of-the-art HTML5/W3C API support including new features, such as Content Security Policy 1.0 and Navigation Timing, and relevant specification updates
  • Web DynamicBox runtime framework supporting the embedding of Web DynamicBox in viewer-like applications (e.g., home screen application)
  • Enhanced Web IDE providing WYSIWYG design environment, Chrome-based JavaScript inspector, and JavaScript log viewer
  • Native IDE providing a project wizard, WYSIWYG design environment, unit test tool, and dynamic analyzer

Tizen Conference schedule

After a couple of weeks reviewing the 160+ sessions submitted to the program committee, we have finally come up with a first schedule for Tizen Developers Conference 2013. We have created a balanced scheduled, trying to fullfil the needs of the Application developer community, those investigating deploying Tizen on their devices, and the community of people currently developing Tizen. Following the lines of the Call For Papers, we have therefore created three tracks:

    • Basics of HTML5 game development
    • Cordova on Tizen 2.0
    • Developer Highlight Presentations: Native App Development for Tizen Devices

Tizen 2.0 SDK and Source Code Release

We are pleased to announce that Tizen 2.0 source code and SDK are now available at https://developer.tizen.org/downloads/sdk. Tizen 2.0 represents a major milestone for software developers and device vendors. We encourage you to download the new SDK, and let us know what you think of it after you have installed and used it. If you have questions, or need to submit bugs, please visit our community page.

This release includes many new features and improvements over Tizen 1.0 released in April, and Tizen 2.0 alpha in September, 2012. As a Tizen 2.0 developer, you will find strong HTML5/W3C APIs and a new native framework. Highlights of this release include:

  • Enhanced Web framework that provides state-of-the-art HTML5/W3C API support
  • Web UI framework, including full-screen and multi-window support

Everyone can become part of Tizen community. We encourage you to read and comment on blog posts, chat to your fellow developers in the forums, mailing lists and IRC channel, and even contribute to Tizen wiki. You can ask questions, share your development experience, contribute sample code, and collaborate with other developers. You can also download the latest Tizen source code and submit bug fixes.
